Manchester-based Purple Productions, part of Objective Media Group, an All3Media company, has been commissioned by 5 to delve into two iconic Royals – firstborn of Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Anne, and future heir to the throne, Prince George.

In the first of the 2×90 documentaries, When Anne Married Mark: The Royal Wedding of the 70s, will reveal more about the romance and wedding, that 50 years ago saw Princess Anne fall in love with and marry the soldier and Olympic equestrian Mark Phillips.

Featuring interviews with Royal experts, the groom’s best-man, Eric Grounds, as well as Royal reporter at the time, Angela Rippon, the one-off will uncover how Princess Anne’s wedding would “thrust her into the limelight like never before.” It will also reveal “so much more about Britain’s most hard-working royal and how her 70’s wedding set a precedent for future royal weddings.”

The second commission, Prince George: The Next Generation of Royals (working title), delves into the making of a future king. “Unlike William and Harry, George has been raised with a level of normality no heir before him has experienced. But as public scrutiny intensifies, how are his parents preparing him for the moment the spotlight turns on him?”

Through exclusive archive, expert interviews, including royal favourite children’s clothing designer, Rachel Riley, the documentary examines the key moments that have shaped George’s life so far and reveal more about the boy who will one day be King.

Purple Productions’ Dympna Jackson said: “We know there’s an incredible fascination with our Royal family and we’re excited to be working with 5 to tell the stories of both one of the oldest and most hardworking member of the family, Princess Anne and one of the newest, Prince George.”
