C4 near to securing new Glasgow base
Channel 4 is in “advanced negotiations” with Castleforge Partners to lease just over 4,000 sq ft in The Garment Factory building in Glasgow as its new Creative Hub.
The broadcaster will lease the space on the first floor of the historic building, which has recently undergone a refurbishment, to establish its new Creative Hub – a new base for the broadcaster in the city which will be home to programme commissioners and other Channel 4 roles.
The redeveloped will have the space to host its partners in the production and creative industries.
The Garment Factory is a historic and well-known building in Glasgow situated in the Merchant City Central Conservation Area. Built in 1898, it was originally the garment factory of J & W Campbell. The building is already home to a number of creative businesses.
The negotiations are being led by CBRE on behalf of Channel 4. Channel 4 would intend to take up the space in the building from late 2019.
Jonathan Allan, Channel 4’s Chief Commercial Officer said: “We’ve seen a range of incredibly impressive potential options across the city as a home for our new Creative Hub in Glasgow. However, The Garment Factory stood out as an iconic building which would give us the flexibility of space we need and the proximity to other creative businesses and services in Glasgow city centre.”
Alistair Urquhart, Associate Director, CBRE said: “The Garment Factory is a modern and unique building which will provide an ideal fit for Channel 4. Having advised Channel 4 on a series of property related matters we are delighted to be close to securing the first of its regional hubs.”
