Realtime production studio Dimension has announced the launch of Dimension Live, a new division dedicated to “taking live experiences to the next level.”
Dimension Live harnesses the studio’s expertise in virtual production for film & TV to “realise new creative and technical possibilities” in live events, including music and stage performances, virtual concerts, live attractions and location-based entertainment.
The team will provide end-to-end and bespoke services, working from early concepts, realtime visualisation and technical design, through to content production and on-site execution.
“Dimension has a rich, innovative history in live and immersive entertainment. Over the past decade our team have delivered exciting ‘firsts’ for artists including Coldplay, Madonna, and Sam Smith, and inspired audiences through our 3D and holographic work at visitor attractions and events. Led by Mark Bustard, our new Live division builds on this work, bringing the magic and latest benefits of realtime technologies to the world of live events,” said Simon Windsor, co-CEO and co-founder of Dimension Studio.
The dedicated Live team will work closely with event producers, agencies, operators, and rights-holders with a shared goal of creating experiences that “immerse audiences in bold new ways.”
Executive Producer for Live, Mark Bustard said, “Thanks to our expertise in virtual production, what Dimension Live offers is an incredibly unique service for clients and partners across the live events industry. We are bringing the power and agility of realtime technologies to the design and delivery of new concepts that create the highest-quality experiences for audiences looking to be entertained on a whole other level.”
One of the first partnerships for Dimension Live has been with HERE at Outernet, a new live events space, part of London’s new Outernet district. This long-term relationship has seen the development of a photorealistic digital twin of the venue including real time lighting and screen content displayed on the venue’s LED screen. The Dimension Live team have been working with HERE undertaking ongoing tests of its realtime systems for live shows.
This partnership presented the team with the opportunity to showcase some of what it can do when HERE at Outernet hosted four nights of shows by electronic musician Floating Points who was accompanied by harpist Miriam Adefris. Dimension provided for the first time in a live show, realtime virtual lighting and a digital extension of the venue which crowds could see on the venue’s LED volume.
Dimension partnered closely with creative studio Hamil Industries for the shows and the artist on stage was Akiko Nakayama. Lighting & stage design was Will Potts and Ed Warren, photography by Genevieve Reeves and the shows’ promoter was Eat Your Own Ears.
