Director/producer David Leitch, and his producing partner, Kelly McCormick have teamed up with Universal Pictures Content Group (UPCG) for premium documentary, Action, a new series featuring the real lives behind some of Hollywood’s top stunt performers.
The series will be produced through Leitch and McCormick’s production and action design company, 87North.
Currently in post-production, the six-part series gives an exclusive insight into the under recognised art of action and some of the stunt teams working in movies today.
Action will feature exclusive behind-the-scenes access to some of Hollywood’s biggest movie sets such as the highly anticipated Hollywood blockbuster, The Fall Guy (directed by Leitch and produced by McCormick), a film that celebrates these talented individuals as Leitch’s gifted crew work their magic as stunt doubles, coordinators and 2nd unit directors on set.
Action follows stunt teams at work and tells the stories of a group of everyday individuals, bonded by their love of action-sports, martial arts, motor-cross and more, and what brought them to the stunt world in the first place. It will show the highs and lows of working in such an extremely skilled, and often dangerous environment, whilst balancing family life.
The series comes at a point when global interest in action films is at a high with the likes of Top Gun: Maverick (worldwide gross $1,496m), Fast X ($703m), and John Wick: Chapter 4 ($427m).
Said Leitch, “My first loves are action films, and the backbone of this genre are the stunt performers who bring their kinetic magic to the screen. Kelly and I are excited to finally shine the spotlight on these unsung, unseen heroes of Hollywood and celebrate the stunt community with Action.”
Helen Parker, EVP – Universal Pictures Content Group said: “There is absolutely no one better to work with when it comes to stunts and action movies, so we are thrilled that David and Kelly have been willing to secure such unprecedented access into the lives of their incredible teams who are unequivocally the best in the business. This documentary series gives a fascinating insight into the people behind the action; we get to meet some amazing characters and learn about what brought them to Hollywood and what they had to sacrifice in order to achieve success.”
Leitch and McCormick are executive producers on Action, working with an award-winning creative team in producers Josh Oreck (John Wick, Sherlock Homes) and Chelsea Allen (Prop Culture, Fam Jam) and director Bridger Nielson (All Things Must Pass, The Prodigy). NBC Universal Global Distribution is handling international sales.
