A planned Film Quarter in the London Borough of Camden has made a significant step towards realisation, as part of the Regis Road Area Guidance which has been adopted by the borough as a supplementary planning document.
Yoo Capital is the real estate investment firm behind iconic London developments including Olympia which opens later this year, has an ambition to create “an innovative and film-focused neighbourhood in Camden.”
Last year, Yoo Capital partnered with Camden Council, to help bring forward regeneration in the area, including a proposed Camden Film Quarter. These plans were shared with the public, and feedback was gathered with Yoo Capital subsequently sharing a masterplan vision to Camden.
With plans now to advance the detailed designs in concert with ongoing community and stakeholder engagement, Yoo Capital is targeting to submit planning permission later this year.
This new quarter in Central London will combine industrial, commercial and creative activities with restaurants, eateries, and galleries as well as high-quality new homes, with a target of 50% affordable homes across the site and a commitment to delivering 50% affordable homes on Yoo Capital controlled land.
The masterplan also features cutting-edge education facilities for film & television, in partnership with the National Film and Television School and the London Screen Academy.
Lloyd Lee, Managing Partner, Yoo Capital, said: “As we now move forward to bringing the detailed masterplan to life, our partnership with the Council will continue to serve as a guiding light. Now we begin laying the foundation for our shared vision of a truly accessible, sustainable, symbiotic community for generations of Londoners that is founded upon several key interlinked pillars: affordable housing for families in this magnificent city; great education, internships and professional training; long-term employment with innovative SMEs and major global employers in the creative industries, as well as green spaces interspersed with interesting places of culture, hospitality and entertainment.”
Councillor Adam Harrison, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Planning and a Sustainable Camden, said: “The adoption of the Regis Road Area Guidance is a big step for Kentish Town. Not only do we have a clear, community-driven plan for the area’s future, but the exciting prospect of the Camden Film Quarter adds another layer of opportunity.
“This guidance ensures that any development, including the Film Quarter, delivers real benefits for our residents – more homes, more jobs, and a thriving, creative hub. It will be an integrated, green neighbourhood, connecting Regis Road to surrounding areas with walking and cycling paths, linking Hampstead Heath better into the heart of Kentish Town.”
