Long Story TV, Triongl and APC Studios have started production on the second chapter in The Light In The Hall / Y Golau anthology series for Welsh public broadcaster S4C and AMC Networks’ Sundance Now.

Filmed in both English and Welsh, new 6 x 60‘ psychological thriller Still Waters / Y Golau:Dŵr is being made in association with Channel 4 and with the support of Welsh Government through Creative Wales.

In deals brokered by APC Studios, which is also handling worldwide sales, the English-language version series is produced for AMC Networks streamer Sundance Now to broadcast in North America, Australia and New Zealand.

Written and created by Regina Moriarty (Murdered By My Boyfriend) and directed by Rhys Carter, Erin Richards and Sion Ifan, Still Waters / Y Golau: Dŵr stars Sian Reese-Williams (Hidden, Wolf), Mark Lewis Jones (Outlander, Chernobyl), Nia Roberts (Hidden, The Crown), Robert Glenister (Spooks, Hustle, The Night Caller), Tom Rhys Harries (White Lines, Suspicion) and Maeve Courtier-Lilley (The Red King). Filming starts this October with broadcast planned for 2025.

Two years on from season one, and Caryl Huws (Sian Reese-Williams) still lives in the town of Llanemlyn. Her life has started afresh. Finally confronting the shackles of guilt and regret she had, she’s decided to follow her dream of going back into education to become a journalist.

Caryl attends an exhibition of a Welsh protestor’s art and looks at photographs of families displaced by a controversial reservoir where activists are objecting about the planned extension. Prominent amongst the images is the image of Llyr Owen, a local young man who was killed in an explosion at the site of a planned expansion in 1995.  At first glance it seemed that Llyr had died committing a terrorist act, but police soon found evidence implicating Llyr’s cousin, best friend, and co-conspirator Rhys Owen (Mark Lewis Jones). Rhys protested his innocence of the murder but was convicted and sentenced to 22 years in prison.

Caryl is fascinated with the newly announced expansion of the reservoir on everyone’s lips and decides it’s a subject she‘s passionate about – the story of a community and family torn apart by the reservoir. It’s the story of her people, her town and with Rhys still protesting his innocence, she is compelled to investigate what really happened. It’s the perfect story to land her that dream job with a local paper, and eventually lead us to the truth.
